Kristen I googled and a few things I read was that BAH doesn't cover most off post housing, is that true? I wanted to stay on post anyway but just in case we couldn't get in right away I wanted a back up plan. How is on post housing at Campbell?

BAH is like $822 I think and we live off post and our rent is pretty expensive, but everything is covered! The waiting list for on post housing is a couple of months I think and most of the housing is gross. They are trying to remodel some of the older ones, but the newer ones are hard to get into and sometimes only for officers. If you want to live off post, but still really close to post they are building some brand new apartments right across from Gate 3 that look really nice. Not sure what the rent would be though. http://fortcampbellrents.com/ has a lot of listings of apartments and even houses for rent.

Well, what are good things about the base, bad things...what things/places to avoid, fave places around...stuff like that?

I read today that they have renovated most of the housing in Hammond Heights. So where we live now $822 would pay my rent and that's it...lol. We get $1574 for where we live and it covers absolutely everything and then some. Make's me want to stay home.

I really like the area though. It kind of reminds me of where I grew up. We actually live in Clarksville, tn. Nashville is only like a 40 minute drive away and there are a bagillion things to do there! There's actually a link on Campbell's website of places that military is not allowed in the Hopkinsville/Clarksville area, but for the most part Clarksville and Hopkinsville are very military friendly. Fort Campbell also claims to have "the largest PX in the world" lol. I don't know if it's true, but it is pretty nice!

I was looking around AHRN and there were some great options for us. Most were only 2 bedrooms but the square footage is bigger than our current place so it's probably ok if we do get a 2 bedroom.

Is it cheaper at the px and commisary than off post?

It really just depends on what you're shopping for. Alot of things you can get for the same price at the walmart in oak grove (which is right across from post, still in KY). If you go to stores across the TN state line, the tax makes everything more expensive.

My hubby and I r at Ft.Campbell but live in Hopkinsville.If I can tell u anything dont live in Hopkinsville my hubby has to leave r house at 4:15a because the traffic is bad.And he really dont have to be there til 6:30a.Anyone that is from I would love to talk to u more I have been here a year and dont know anybody but I was also 2 wks pregnant when we got here.
