Is it just me, or does anyone else just not feel like participating in battalion activities just before deployments?

It's like, yay we're throwing you a 1 hour party...and then we'll take your husbands for a year!! Aren't we wonderful??

:chinscratch: How about instead of spending time planning this "party" you let our husbands come home on time...for once!!!

:gah:

Possibly in a month or 2...Technically his first deployment though since the last was "just" a tour to korea.

ohhh Erin. SO SORRY GIRL.

I am sort of wondering what it will be like for JM the week I am there when he deploys. Like I can just see the Army making them do BULLSHIT stuff the entire week they are deploying... hello the army is "family oriented" so let them spend time with us before you freaking send them away for a year! If im flying down there... I better get to spend time with him!

I hate those "fun" activities. In the end everyone just starts talking about the deployment and depressing everyone. It's a bummer.

That's what I am afraid of! Like I don't already know all the reasons that deployments suck. I think I might skip their "fun"

Luckily Nick is reserves so we never have to do this. But I can't believe they think a PARTY is in order before they leave for war. :( I'm sorry, Erin. Deployments are definitely crappy but the sooner it happens, the sooner he'll be home with you

We went to the FRG meetings at the Farm because they had lunch and we got to shoot guns and that's where I got all the information I needed, other than that, we didn't do anything.

Most of the fun starts maybe 2 months before they leave, FRG meetings up the butt, for us, it was a brigade wide, then a unit wide, and then broke into Troops... and then there are the little events planned by the FRG leaders, fundraisers, dinners, balls... I didn't mind until it go to be like 3 weeks before they left and I was like woah woah woah, I need my husband, ALONE.

And they were all mandatory for the guys... so its stupid.

We had nothing like that. I guess they don't care about the Reservists. LOL Which is fine with me. He would have been miserable if he had to go through all that.

Do they have a bunch the week of their deployment? I mean Ill go with JM but i want ALONE TIME

Erin

It totally depends on the FRG.

Ours is kinda slow...since I've been here we've had 2 meetings and one christmas party. That's the company. The battalion has had 1 BBQ and 1 meeting.

Oh there was one saturday where the company grilled out and the guys were required to go, but they got monday off instead.

And there's just a few things coming up, most of them this week or next. If they do something the week the guys are leaving we won't find out until...the week they are leaving.

And our company isn't into fundraisers...we all voted and decided just to not do fundraisers, and not do anything that requires money.

I didn't have to do any pre-deployment activities when Matt left because we weren't married yet. Actually come to think of it, he didn't really have anything like that to go to even without me
