Ring?!

Sooo, here's the thing. Ry and I have been on and off for 4 1/2 years now. Solid for the last two. (I was young, he was just getting started in the army, I didn't know how to handle things/neither did he, blah blah blah. Once I got settled into college and him into the army, we really solidified things with each other.)

Since day one we've talked about "us" later on in life. That's ALWAYS been a possibility for us. Well, in the last few months, we've really started talking about marriage, kids, getting a house, etc.

So, when I picked him up a few weeks ago on base, we went to the PX. (Since I don't live on base, whenever I go I HAVE to go to the PX. LOVE ITTTTTT for some reason! haha) Anyways, he sort of nonchalantly pulls me to the jewelry counter and starts looking at these rings. Then he proceeds to call an employee over to pull rings out of the cabinet and put on me. I'm sort of shy, so I was embarrassed and wanted to run in the other direction haha. So afterwards he grabs the booklet and we get out to the car. He tells me that he doesn't think he would get a ring from the PX but is asking me to look at different carat sizes and whatnot in the book for different rings.

Today he texts me and says, "wow, emerald cut rings are pretty but expensive." I'm like, why are you looking at those? He just sents me back a ;) face.

Uh, wth?! I'm so confused. We have always talked about getting married one day, but never this in depth. Idk if he's trying to feel the situation out? Maybe he's telling me these things to see my reaction? Plus, on top of all of this, he's been a little weird lately. Like nervous when he talks to me..

before joey proposed- or rather, when he was trying to propose- that whole day he was acting weird, and while he was trying to propose he was SO nervous. its so funny to me- no matter how long you're with them they get so nervous when they ask, its cute!

but yeah it looks to me like he's lookin around girl!!! have yall ever talked ab WHEN you would get engaged/married? HOW EXCITING!!!!!

p.s. im like you, every base i go to i HAVE to go to the PX lol bc i never lived on base with him and just LOVE the px!

I'm trying not to get my hopes up just in case, but omg! Idk what to do!

And we have, we have always said when I'm done with school...which I graduate in May...and when we're financially stable. With him going on this deployment, he'll be a little more ahead than he has been.

Things have felt different lately. Like we're moving on to a different level. Kell, remember how a few weeks ago I felt like things were a little in the air. Maybe it's been this? He's been so nervous lately and whatnot..

well maybe he's looking now since he'll be financially more stable with the deployment money (thats when we made a lot of our bigger purchases, including our rings, and put some aside for our house too- all the deployment money) and he'll be in a place where he can afford it!

he is planning on making the military a career or just doing his time and getting out?

He is in the national guard now and wants to switch to regular army. It's really the only thing that makes him happy. So I think he's in for good.

I'd be done for getting engaged and planning a wedding for after deployment/graduation. I just don't want to get my hopes up and nothing happen! :(

yeah joey misses it a lot- 2 years later he still talks about going back active; he did reserve for two years (just recently got out) but he didnt like it compared to active. we talk about it a LOT but have yet to do it. mainly bc when he was active he was either in germany, or iraq- and missed out a lot on family, so thats making him hesitant. told him i'd do whatever!

anyhoo-- i know what you mean, i am so bad about getting my hopes up! maybe ask him about it and see what he says, and just go from there? idk but im super excited for you!!!

Would you be okay moving away from family if you were to move with him? That scares the hell out of me! I would do it, but I've heard how lonely it can get.

Omg, so we're on Skype...his friend is next to him. He doesn't know he didn't mute his microphone and he said look I'm thinking about getting her this one. and his friend said, can't she see your web page in the reflection of your eyes? He laughed and said noooo.

YAY!!! a month before Jamie proposed his mom was trying to get us to go ring shopping day after thanksgiving so that I could get the one I wanted and he could put it away until he was ready to propose...and first off i said 'um....no deb, we've only been together/known eachother 2 months and secondly...when/if we get engaged i want it to be a suprise, the ring and all, i dont want to know he has it" and then he completely did shock me for christmas lol...

Oh that would be awesome if thats what he is up to. William was wierd for about a month or more before he proposed. Fingers crossed for ya!!

William and I looked at rings in October, He let me pick 3 rings and then told me to sit in the car, he chose which of the 3 he liked best. Well he ended up putting them in layaway and wouldn't tell me which. So the wknd before thanksgiving he asked my dad if he could marry me, My dad was all teary eyed just staring at me, I was like what the hell did you do to my dad, haha. Well a few weeks passed and I asked him what was up with the layaway, He told me he lost the layaway because he couldn't afford to pay on it anymore. I was crushed and I told our roomate (bestman) that he doesn't even care enough about me to get our rings out and this and that, I dont know why I'm wasting my time. Well total surprise william had talked to roomie and william moved his proposal up to christmas eve. I was completely blown away because he had been acting different for a month. He completely blew me away I was so surprised, No one knew, he was planning to propose on new years at midnight. But total surprise to everyone who knew his plan. The surprise of it all had my bawling my eyes out, My mom thought I was in a car accident LMAO. She threw her sandals on and then said sherry wait what is wrong what am I coming for, I said he proposed. She said oh Lord I'm on my way to see the ring.

eeee rings are so exciting! I was trying sooo hard not to get my hopes up he totally shocked me. I had talked myself into thinking he was going to wait until after deployment - he didn't. It was supposed to be 18 months and he didn't want to wait that long.

We had been talking about rings for months. Showed me his mom's ring (his grandmas originally) and decided he would like something a little bigger. I'm pretty sure he didn't go off of what I wanted at ALL and picked what he wanted but I love it, it's beautiful and I get TONS of comments on it. He was alllll strange the night we went out but I thought it was because I dragged him to NYC in his class a's lol but was because he was soooo nervous! I laughed because he HAD to know I was going to say yes. he was like well I thought you would but I was so afraid you'd say no! crazy boys!

I'll keep my finger's crossed for you. The hardest thing for me (besides deployment) when Mike was in was being away from home/family. The rest seems so much easier. BUT we both really loved it. I think he misses the friends and the work but certainly not the training/deployments. We've just spent too much time apart.

That is so exciting even to think about! Sounds to me like rings! Make sure you keep us updated!
Tim was dropping hints like crazy, and was all weird and vague for over a month before Christmas. I had an idea what he was up too, but loved that he proposed in front of my family (though they all already knew he was going to). He just sat there beside me fiddling with a piece of wrapping paper when I opened the box, he kinda looked down and whispered it. I have never seen my husband uncertain about himself before or since.
I didn't really get teary eyed until he told me that he had asked my father for my hand, and said that he wouldn't marry me without dad's blessing. Note that my father pretty muchs hates my husband, so for Tim to realize how much it would mean to ask, was huge.

so exciting!!! aahh i love weddings!
When mike proposed i wasnt expecting it at all. We went to vegas and of course did all things vegas and ended up super wasted and i guess i was the one who was like lets get married while were here. like it was no big deal or anything ha. he kept telling me to wait until i was sober and then we would decide what to do and i woke up the next morning and was like...this isnt such a good idea ha. when we got back to colorado i was exausted(not only from the drinking, but i was just getting used to the time change in co and then to go to vegas and another time change) so i pretty much just passed out. well i guess he was looking online at rings while i was sleeping and when i woke up he said we needed to go to the mall so i could get something green(it was the day before st pattys day). so we had thai food for supper and went to the mall and we just stopped in to look at jewelry cuz he said he wanted to get me a necklace or bracelet or something before he deploys and we started looking at rings and trying them on. go figure i didnt realize what was going on. we went to a different store in the mall to get a shirt or something and he says he had to go to the bathroom. well he actually went and bought the ring and we go home. the whole way home he said he wasnt feeling good and thought it was the food we ate. when we get back on base and in his room he's all i gotta go to the bathroom but there is something i have to do first. here i as thinking he wanted to check his email or find his book or something and i just turned around and he was down on his knee. afterwords he said he was super nervous and didnt know what i was going to say ha.

Anyways, so that's a definite yes that that's what he's doing. (Why the hell is he telling me? lol) buttttt maybe it's like Sherry's situation where he's just saying that he can't get it now...who knows! I guess I'll just have to wait it out!

my story is random!

and kinda weird how we did it...

we'd already decided to get married on his RnR from Iraq (bc he was planning on re-enlisting while in Iraq and we wanted to do all the paperwork to make sure I could go with him!) so a wedding was planned before he even came home lol BUT i told him every girl deserves a proper proposal!

the day he got home we all went to the airport to get him (we hadnt seen eachother in 10 months AND had broken up during that time...crazy deployment) -- apparently his mom brought the ring with her (he had paid it off already and his mom picked it up-has my grannys diamond in it!) and she had her video camera- she brought it to capture him proposing to me at the airport in front of everyone. BUT i guess he was like stupid nervous bc he didnt do it (i was clueless and wondering when he was gonna do it since we were supposed to get married 3 days later lol).

we went back to his parents house, he showered, everyone just hung out- he yelled at me to come up to his room- so i walk up and we're just laying in bed kissing and hugging. and he all of a sudden starts stuttering, and sweating, and telling me how much he loves me etc etc and i give him this crazy look like 'what the heck is wrong with you??' next thing i know his mom is banging on his bedroom door for us to come downstairs bc my mom had just showed up to see him- so he's like "give me a minute mom!" and she keeps yelling so finally it clicks in my head and i smile and go "mom, i think he's proposing- give us a minute!" and she goes " oh my goodness!" and runs downstairs lol. then we hear her telling everyone (through the vent in his room) and we both just started laughing.

so of course i said yes ;) and he put the ring in my finger. we walked downstairs and everyone started clapping. haha kind of a crazy,random story but it works...he got done what he needed to ;)

Aww, Kell! So sweet!!!

I think my story is going to be similar because he's pretty much told me in so many words without ACTUALLY saying. Plus, if I just had NO clue I would be able to tell through his mom/my mom and the way they've been acting towards me. (Super smiley, happy, touchy, always smile at me with tears in their eyes haha) I have an idea that he's already bought a ring and I'm like 99% sure he'll do it before he leaves. (If possible)

Plus, like I said in my other post, we've been talking houses/money/what we need to get done and whatnot. SOOOOOOOOOO crazy!!! But totally exciting!! I can't wait!!
