From the following article it looks like the Army is trying to revamp Basic training to better train our soldiers for Afganistan and Iraq. No more 5-mile runs which I'm sure will make the new guys happy.

I dont see how no 5 mile runs would be helpful... sorry but endurance is just as important to training too

However, I totally agree with the bayonette course. Kela and I both have done the lovely one at leonardwood ITS POINTLESS. WE DO NOT FIGHT WITH BAYONETTES ANYMORE!! Lol and thats a WHOLE DAY of basic

I agree Kristi! I don't know about everyone but my hubby often has to do long distance runs usually 6 miles+. Adam has said since BCT that the bayonette training is pointless.

The world is constantly changing, as is the way we fight. It only makes sense to have a constantly changing method of training. I cannot believe it's been 3 decades since they have adjusted how we train our soldiers!!

ya my husband was telling me a little bit about his training and that it was different, but he hasn't gotten to tell me about how so. that was good to read, lol i'll talk to him about it on saturday when he calls and maybe i'll find out that his training is kind of like that too.

plz don't get me started on the changes they are making...its a bit ridiculous especially if we want America's ARMY to stay the top power in the world....

is it true they have a stress card now? LOL

no.. no stress card, but they CANT make it easier for ppl to get thru - believe me its already WAY easy to make it thru the basic training and there are already plenty of people who are ..how to put it nicely .. messed up in the head they can barely weed out who ride the system to make it thru training and I would NOT want or trust them to go downrange with me or anyone else...there are people already sliding thru who are going to cause the armed forces more harm than help and could be a factor in getting ppl killed...if they make training any easier more and more of them are going to get thru the cracks and the army is gonna face a NASTY downfall...

It's funny you say that. A guy in Adam's unit is just now being discharged for schizophrenia. I asked how could he have gone through training ( he's been in for the same amount of time Adam has so a little over 1.5 yrs ) and no one noticed and they said it was brought on recently by stress. I'm not a psychologist but IDK if I believe that. It could be a way to get out of a deployment?!?

this has nothing to do with anything but....

scott said there was a guy that wanted out of the marines really bad and for like a year he walked around everywhere pretending like he was dribling a basket ball. they finally said he was crazy and discharged him. the day he went into his COs office to sign the papers to get out as he left hes say oh here and gives his pretend basketball to the CO.

true story.

people will do ANYTHING to get out of training, or out of the military in general and it's sad!!

OMG Regina! That's sad but it's actually kinda funny too!

I think that they do need to do updates every now and then but some of this is a little ridiculous
