My husband was prior service and re-enlisted as a USAF Recruiter. He is leaving for tech school this weekend. I do not live near an AF base nor will we live near an AF base once we get to his duty station in two months. Does anyone know when we will get paperwork for TriCare? Will I be able to use the TriCare Remote while he's in school even though there are Army and Navy bases near me? I've never been a military wife and have absolutely no clue at this point! Thanks Ladies!!

It depends honestly. You have to really look at the pro's and con's and see what is best for you and your family. We were on Standard at first but with my son being in and out of the doctors often we switched to Prime because it was getting costly at that time. We paid a lot of money when we were on BCBS and even though it was cheaper on Standard but it helped a lot when we switched to Prime. We didn't live near an Army post or even close enough to the Naval Base but we didn't have to deal with Prime Remote since there was a doctor close by that accepted Prime.

Like Kira said it will depend on what doctors are near you. Ask your current doctor if you have one if they accept Tricare prime. If you don't have a current doctor call some local offices and find out who accepts prime. Once you get an ID card you can go to the Tricare office at any Base it doesn't have to be Airforce and they can help you find a local doctor that accepts Tricare prime. I would think since you are close to Army and Navy bases lots of doctors will accept Tricare.

My hubby is Army National Guard when we were on Tricare I was able to see my current doctor since with all the Navy and Marine bases here alot of doctors accept Tricare prime. But I never had to go to an Actual Army base I signed up online or I could of gone to the Tricare office on the closest Marine or Navy base.

If you have it avaiable. PRIME. I was paying out the ASS for standard, so go prime!
