So on DH's LES, it shows that no federal taxes have come out YTD. He claimed 5 (don't ask me how he got 5) and it's me, him, and our daughter. Is he claiming too much? Will he have to pay at the end of the year? I don't know what other situations allow you to claim more.
When I was working I was able to claim 4 but that was myself, my daughter (I could claim her as 2 bc my income was below a certain amount), and I was able to claim another deduction for being a single (unmarried) parent. Now that we're married, I don't think he claim that high and get away with it, but I don't know a whole lot about taxes or if they're different with military.

What's your take on this, ladies?

(edit) I also meant to ask about FSH. His LES shows FSH pay, but no FSP. Is FSH similar? I looked it up but I don't understand if it's supposed to be in addition to FSP or if it's in place of it. Thanks for your help!

FSH is Family Separation Housing so yes it is the same just a different acronym, it should be $250.

About taxes I'm not sure about having to pay in so I would talk to someone at a tax place or Military One Source. To answer your question the best I can, there is not limit on claims that I know of. I knew a single guy once that that claimed 5 (it was an employer accident) and he had to pay all his taxes at the end of the year. Since they have taken 0 I would safely guess that there might be a chance you have to pay in. If you have access to his LES you can change it but make sure you ask him first since technically it is his pay. We were claiming Married and I talked to my DH and he allowed me to switch it cause we like to claim single zero or married at the single higher rate. If you want more money now your safest bet would be to claim 3, that way you know you will not pay in.

Thanks Kira! I would never change it without his permission. lol He'd flip. He asked me to look into it for him, so I thought I'd ask you all and see if anyone knows anything about it.

Your Welcome! Well I'd figure I'd just throw that out there because we all know how the Army can be with soldier's finances..lol. Personally my husband can care less ;0)

Here's a link to the IRS withholding calculator. I didn't read how to use it but I figured it might help.

Personally I like to claim a little low like usually 1 or 0 because when we first got married I claimed like 3 I think and I ended up paying at the end of the year. He may have gotten confused on the whole thing I know I did.
