i recieved a manilla envelop in the mail today.. and it's about the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) for medical care through TRICARE. it says that i'm already approved for it but that i have to take the completed app to the nearest military installation; there's a National Guard armory about 10 minutes away from my apartment, does that count as the nearest military installation??
it said if i needed to look up what would be closest i could go to www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl and i did, but it said that the closest places were 30 miles away and further. i just was wondering if anyone knew if i could just get this thing done at the armory or not...? if not, it's ok, i'll figure it out eventually lol!:banghead:

It means that you need to take it to a Medical Facility that has a Tricare office. You'll submit the application to that office and they will set you up with a primary care provider that will see you.

Not all national guards can do it, I know it sucks :( The closest one here to me is about a 40 min drive, and there are guard units 5 min from my house lol

if you're not near one what you can do is wait until hubs graduation and do it while you're at leonardwood (if I'm correct) and do it then. I don't know how it would work to see a dr in the interim tho...,

You are automatically enrolled in Tricare Standard for now, we didn't need to show an ID card at my sons doctors office I just told them we switched from BCBS to Tricare and they took care of it. If you take the app to an MTF then you can enroll in Tricare Prime. I had to drive 30+ miles to get my ID and enroll in Prime but for me I was only close to a Navy base, I knew where it was so it wasn't a big deal for me.
If you can't make the trip I think you can fax the paper work to get on Tricare Prime if you want, you don't have to now. As far as getting your ID Mere has a good idea and wait until you go to FLW and you can get your ID then, just don't forget to bring the paperwork!
Good Luck!!

thanks guys. ya i've just been confused about what to do with that because i'm pretty sure that i need to be on that insurance. mark was working full-time at jewel before and now he's considered as on a military leave-of-absense and he doesn't know if his insurance from jewel is still active while he's gone. awesome lol. and plus, before he left, he got all the information to jewel about us being married and updated his status on every piece of paper known to man, and so they sent us new perscription cards and dental cards, but not a new insurance card. so i've been holding onto his old one and hoping that nothing goes wrong with that. but ya i'm definitely going to have to get this worked out, like now! haha

I enrolled in Tricare Prime through fax. I called them and they sent me to the website where I could get the forms to fill out and fax. The only thing I had to go to DEERS office for was to get my military ID.

I enrolled on the Triwest website. The first thing I would do is read about the program on Tricare.org. Just select deployed or active National Guard as your category.

Also since your hubby is National Guard you only get Tricare prime when he's active duty (deployed or training) for more then 30 days. So depending on the length of his training it may not be worth the hassle. You may also want to find out if your current doctor accepts Tricare Prime or if there are Tricare Prime doctors in your area. If not then there's no point.

If you don't have other insurance from your husband's or your civilian employer then you can buy Tricare Select which is just like Tricare standard but for National Guard while not deployed. Its very affordable and a pretty good insurance program.

Hope this info helps.
