Ok I'm like seriously going to start this soon. For real this time. David is about to be 3 and i just feel like it is time for him to be potty trained. Like when he poops he'll go hide in the corner or in another room then come to me after its done and tell me to change him because he's pooped. So I think he's ready. But when i carry him to the potty sometimes he'll go but others hes like no i dont need to go i want a diaper and so i'll put one on him and like as soon as i do it he pees in it. so i dont know what to do. Like He loves stickers so i give him 1 sticker for sitting on the potty. and 2 for a pee pee and 3 for a poop. But then he just wants the stickers and doesnt care about the potty. So i'm at a lose. Like i just need some tips from people that have done this because i feel bad when i go take my 3 yr old to the walmart bathroom to change his diaper. Hes too big for that. HELP ME PLEASE?!?!!?

Dude don't feel bad... my roomies 4 y/o is still in diapers and they have made NO ATTEMPTS at potty training. My boyfriend and I do it. Well the one thing his parents do try is they won't put a diaper on him cuz he knows when he has to go hes usually too pre-occupied with a video game or toy to do anything about it and he won't go w/o a diaper. But what Charlie and I do is he gets a candy or sticker for going pee and 2 for poop. Kind of like what your doing but we also keep a chart so that when he comes and tells us he has to go potty he gets a star and 5 stars in a week get him a trip to chuck e cheese. Obviously the big thing we are trying to do is have him tell us when he needs to go. Also their social worker told us that it should be daddys job to show him how big boys stand lol. Another big one was put a cheerio in the potty and have him aim for it lol but he hasnt caught onto that one. And to make it "fun"... I'm not really sure how to make going potty fun but this is our attempts lol

buy him underwear with his fav character on them, i bought a big bag of party mix candy from walmart, it had lil toys and different things in it, (the birthday candy for the treat bags) and made a goody bag and told them use the bathroom and youll get a treat, and let them pick something without looking, they were always surprised and happy to see what they would get! cheerios in the toilet for aim, um i feel like its been forever since i had to potty train my boys, i made a huge deal out of it when they went potty, my boys were easy, ill pull out their baby books for old tricks and tips i did, im drawing a blank right now!!

Thanks ya'll! I try to make it a big deal for him and like really praise him but he just doesnt want to tell us. But he wants it off of him when he does it in his diaper. And i bought him Diego undies and told him not to pee or poo on diego and he still does it haha. I let him go around naked but he hates it. Pull ups are basically diapers so he doesnt do good with those. I seriously think if he could he would be in diapers for the rest of his life haha!! Spahr at least you'll now have some practice! This is stuff they should teach you during the pregnancy classes! This is the hard stuff to me!! haha

Jasons sister does the Cheerio thing. She treats it like a game.

Devon doesn't tell us either. My mom and I started just taking him in every 20 min or so and just having him try. For aim I just had him push right up against the side so it doesn't go everywhere. He's just learning to shake it now. Poop is a whole different story though. Dev is terrified to poop on the potty.

I think if you can just get him in the habit of going in the bathroom the potty thing will follow along shortly. Just keep taking him in and have him try but don't force it ya know?
Oh and I got Devon an Elmo potty book. It talks and makes noises. He likes it. Don't know if it helped teach him though?

We have been really consistent with Colton on the potty training lately.

I keep a box of whoppers in the bathroom. He doesn't tell us when he has to go potty yet. I will catch him when he is trying to go poo and put him on. Sometimes I will catch him too early... and he won't go, but if I catch him just as he was about to he will sit in there and within 20 min go poo on the little potty. We've gone the last 3 days poopin in the potty!! Oh... the whoppers... this is what we do... if he tries, he gets 1, if he pees he gets 2, if he poo's he gets 3, and if he does both he gets 4. It's working so far. I am hoping he learns to tell us that he has to go, knowing he will get a treat. As for the aim thing... I am going to wait until he is consistently going potty in the bathroom and not in his diapers. Once we are good with that, then we will work on standing and aiming! Good luck though! My son just turned 3 in Jan, and honestly wasn't ready for potty training until recently. I learned not to push it with him. You'll do great.

I just stopped putting diapers on Lexie..Lol I think it was like the 2nd time she peed on herself that she realized that she did NOT like how it felt and started telling me when she had to potty and went in the toilet. I still put diapers on her at night though for like another 6 months. It took a little longer with the pooping..Lol She would be walking around in her panties and I would see a puldge in the back..Haha So that took a few more weeks for her to get it down but she did!

haha thats awesome kathryn... i think that every 20 or 30 minutes if you take them in then praise them for effort and reward them for going should work or to make him pee run the bathwater it worked with ginas son... as for aim wait until hes got the sitting part down first and try to put the poop into the toliet and show him and praise it then have him flush hell start wanting to go if he thinks he can flush..lol... or thats what my mom did with my bro
