so I tend to encounter more bad experiences when it comes to my husbands deployment and civilians but TWO people surprised me today!
A guy in my moms office found out my husband likes the "purple box" of girl scout cookies and bought his box back to my mom and said please send this to your son in law and say thank you for me! I thought that was so sweet!!
thennn
my gf/roommate from college works at an elderly community center and they make boxes for the soldiers every week and send them out so she asked for Mike's addy to add to the list!!
It's just nice and I hope that these memories out weigh the stupid comments people have made to me before cause there really are people out there thinking about our my husband and our soldiers in general. Sometimes it really doesn't feel that way so it was nice to get the reminder today!!
Do you guys have any nice things people have done for you or hubs because of his service?? (other than buying him a drink at a bar!!)
That's so awesome and sweet of them!
Well I guess you could consider this a beer at the bar type thing but when we went to AIT grad one of Adam's teachers ( he was civie but prev military so I'm not even sure this counts..lol ) came in to Applebee's when we were eating. He was with his family, introduced us to everyone and talked for a little while then they sat down to order. It was time for our check and he paid for it, I was so shocked.
Outside of that the only thing we ever got back in MA was lots of handshakes.

awee nooo! thats way more than a beer at a bar!! that's awesome! people are unbelievable (in a good way!) sometimes things you never think they would do they do!
It makes me so mad the media chooses only to portray the bad of the military and the people who support them :(
I meant no beers at the bar cause that just seems to be standard for mike in NON military areas....people will just buy him a drink or shake his hand. I meant what kinda situations have you been in that are EXTRAoridinary you know??
When we got engaged he was wearing his class a's (took me out to a FANCY dinner because I couldn't make it to his ball and I wanted to see him in them *brat* i know) hehe then I forced him to take me to see the cmas tree in rockerfeller center and people shook his hand the entire walk from the peer up to the center!! it was so funny ...he hatesss it. Hes like I don't get it why people are thanking me for doing my job...he doesn't get it that most people don't want to DO his job and they're glad someone else will do it for them. But like I said, you see so much of the shit when you get the nice stuff they don't know how to react to it!

thats so sweet of them!!
its true, there are some people out there who truly do care! my sorority sent care packages to aarons unit while they were deployed- some girl spoke up at one of our meetings and was like "lindsays boyfriend is there, why dont we send stuff to them"
they all loved it :)
I know what you mean by the drink thing, BIL hangs out at a bar and when Adam goes to visit they want to buy him drinks. Adam hates the handshake thing too, he's so happy he doesn't get that around here, at all. He gets mad too because he's never been deployed so he's like "what service I just got out of Basic" but he can't tell them that so he goes a long with it but he hates it because he feels like he's done nothing to deserve it.

awe Adam! lol Mike's served 4 tours now and he still hates it. He doesn't feel like he should be thanked for something he's technically being made to do he doesn't get the VOLUNTEER army but I guess because he doesn't WANT to deploy he doesn't feel he should be thanked for it.
Who knows. Hubs hates being the center of attention and avoids it at all cost, one of the things I love about him. He's proud of what he does without being arrogant or show boaty about it
There are some that do it for the attention ;0)
Adam says he wants to deploy, he says that now because he hasn't..lol.

How sweet! Doesn't stuff like that just make you burst with pride? :) No one has really done a whole lot for John yet, except this bar tender we met (she's awesome and her daughter is trying her heart out to pass AIT right now) sent John a card. I thought that was sweet.
And this isn't for John specifically, but at my little cousin's school they made a flag and all the kids got to write why they love living in America and so many kids put things like "because the soldiers keep me safe." I want to get pics of it...I forgot my phone last time. I'll have to get pics and post them next time I'm there. I thought it was the cutest thing.

Haha! Awe! Chassidy says "My daddy's comin ta be a soojoo." So cute! Last night she wore a pair of tight shorts to bed that came down to her knees and she kept pulling the legs up and I asked her what she was doing and she said "My daddy wears that when he's home!" Haha! I about died. So, she slept in her "boxers" last night. Gotta love kids! :)

ow I feel like I've missed so much but I had to contribute to this post. Josh and I ran into a guy a couple of weeks ago who noticed the pen that I wear on my uniform. It says "Keep your roses I prefer his dogtags." He asked about it and I told him my bf was in the Guard. He asked if he had deployed and I told him that he had volunteered four times but they kept finding a reason to keep him here. He said and I quote, "Don't matter, if he made it through basic training and stuck it out like a man then I've got much respect. Something kept him here for a reason and the fact that he was willing to stand up for me makes him a hero in my book." I didn't know what to say. I've never heard anybody say something so simple that touched me so deeply. He also doesn't feel like he deserves the attention that he gets, but he accepts it all with his head held high for all of those who do he says.
