A Camp Lejeune, N.C., Marine has been charged with threatening Barack Obama before the president was sworn into office last month.

Obama is scheduled to deliver a speech from the base in Jacksonville today.

Kody Ray Brittingham, 20, faces up to five years in prison and three years of supervised release if convicted of threatening the president-elect, according to U.S. Attorney George E.B. Holding.

Brittingham also could be fined up to $250,000.

According to a news release, Brittingham told people in November that he intended to shoot Obama, among other things.

"We take all threats against the president and other high officials of the United States very seriously," Holding said. "The threat itself represents a disruption of the United States government, even if no actual attempt is made to carry out the threat."

Obama is expected to unveil his plans to withdraw combat troops from Iraq today. He is scheduled to arrive on Air Force One at the Cherry Point Marine Corps Air station in the morning, according to a White House news release.

Obama will speak from the Goettge Memorial Field House about 11:45 a.m., the release said.

We were on base for that speech. Tom was losing his mind. He doesn't like Obama at all. Plus all the traffic and extra security were a pain in the rump. I wanted to hear him speak personally but I've learned that while I love my boy to bits we do not agree on anything even remotely political.

yea it is awful that united states citizens would even threaten the president.
i mean its understandable that people dont like him, but to publicly threaten him thinking they'll get away with something like that?! ridiculous.

yall... it doesn't sound like something he said seriously.. ya know how you say "if blah blah blah happens i'm going to kill myself" well you're not really going to kill yourself! he wasn't really going to kill him it sounds like something he just said and someone just took it out context

I can't believe he got in trouble. Honestly I am so sure there are way more people out there who have done it... but oh well... and did he actually have a plan... or did people just hear him say it??? I can't seem to find what really happened... have you guys heard?

It sounds to me like he just said it, or else they probably would've said "Marine in trouble for planning to kill the president"

Yeah this is one of those stupid things like when you're on a plane - you can't joke about having a bomb or they take your ass off for a terrorist threat. You don't SAY that stuff out loud. Jeez. Someone needs a brain/mouth filter. :betternot:

Actually Kristi, that is a felony offence to say that about any sitting President. If someone reports you or someone hears you, the Feds will come knocking.

I understand what Lisa said, but I agree with Christy. I may not like the President and I don't agree with what he is doing, but he is the commander-in-chief and my hubby's boss.
