Ok ladies...

So this is my first time I have to file taxes on my own. Up until this year I have been a dependent under my parents.

I HAVE NO FREAKING IDEA WHAT IM DOING. I am def. taking them to HandR block though, or someplace, no wayyyy in hell am I attempting to do them on my own.

I still have a while because I have w2 that havent came in from the army or my scholarships yet... buttt I really have NO clue what Im doing...

My question... how do I file them if Im married, but my husband is deployed? Everything I buy is with my own money, my bank accounts are MINE, not shared with him, we didnt have time to get joint accounts. Is this going to be a problem when I file taxes?

There is a way to file them separately even though were married isnt there?

Yes you can fie married but separate. However, there is no reason for you not to file together. It would probably be a lot easier on him as well. Since he is AD you can do H&R block online FOR FREE. It is very very easy. Kristi, if you need help I will walk you through it on Yahoo messenger.

You can definalty file married filing separate. I don;t know if he has to file or not but somebody at H&R will know. Good luck.

Silly Kristi.. Don't pay H&R block.. Waste of money... You have free H&R block through military one source... And 24/7 support through the site... ;-) Plus if Erin has a ? she can't answer I have done our taxes for 5 yrs. ;)

Kristi, it is really easy HR block software will even tell ask you if it is tax free combat pay. I did them last year all by myself even though he wasn't deployed, it was still really easy. I so want to do them myself this year but with the house ..eeek I don't know.

If you go to militaryonesource.com
it will link you to a free version of H & R blocks tax software... IT walks you through everything.... You don't really have to know what your doing... It tells you everything. Honestly. I mean Erin and I are still tax gods... but.. I'm just saying it really can be very easy.

yeah I've used H&R block software for years, before that I used turbo tax, but I like H&R better. Hmm I wonder if National Guard can use the free Military onesource link I've been buying the software each year hehe.

Also the Army W-2s are up on MyPay and its working today if you want to look at it.

If your guy is deployed and you really don't want to do them right away I think you get an automatic extension till he gets home or something. I remember them telling us this at the yellow ribbon but since my hubby never deployed I haven't looked up the details.

It's not automatic, but they do get an extension if needed. Why wait though? I want my money!!!

And yes, national guard should apply too. You'll have to go to military onesource and look though.
