Okay im lost when it comes to tricare!

I have great benefits through my job right now, and I think they take 20 bucks out of my paycheck each month…and my birth control is like 20 per month…

A friend of mine who is on tricare uses the same BC as me and says its 3 bucks a month! wow! And that some of per prescriptions are 3 bucks 6 bucks 9 bucks…cheap!

But ive heard it’s a pain cause you have to get a PCP through tricare, like on a base? And referrals EVERYWHERE.

As of right now im on my ins still cause joey and I weren’t sure if it was worth it.

So what do you ladies know about tricare? HE is on tricare overseas, since hes been stationed in germany. He said I would be on tricare stateside or something…but ive never heard of it? im tryin to look up stuff online but not having the best of luck. I THINK id be on tricare extra…cause it says it works with tricare overseas and is for active duty family members….

I don’t know :(

There is tricare prime, and tricare standard. Prime you would need a PCP and referrals for some extra stuff. FOr an OB/Gyn regular yearly visit you do not need a referral. If you get prescriptions on base they are free. Off base they are $3, $6, or $9.

I'm not as familar with standard, but you can choose your doctor, don't need referrals, but you pay copays when you go to the doctor. It doesn't cost any out of pocket money if you don't use it. I'm not sure about prescriptions...I imagine it would be the same as prime.

You get standard automatically once you have your ID, so I would check the cost of your prescription using that. Prime you have to sign up for, but it's also free.

You can always have 2 insurances. I think the one from your work would be your primary, but you'd have tricare as a backup...

Growing up, my Mom always was on whatever her job offered and my Dads as a secondary. Same with us. But now they are a lot more stricter. Some insurance companies won't let a spouse on an insurance if they work full time and are able to obtain it from their work. My ex husbands was like that.

Tricare is okay with being the secondary

i have tricare standard still and I don't have co-pays and some doctors don't require a referral or u can go and then get a referral later and u can actually call tricare and have them send one instead of going to your pcp. As for prescriptions my prenatals were really high... but idk if maybe thats just how it is with prenatals. But from all the wildgoose chases I've been on I would want tricare prime just cuz standard does seem to be harder and more expensive and gets more complicated!

It's really really easy to enroll in, and while it is a huge pain in the ass sometimes, you cannot beat the price

FREE birthcontrol!! well mine is at least cause I get it from the pharmacy on post (not sure if that's why it's free but I've taken a rx from a off post dentist and got it filled for free) and the 90 million times I've been in and out of the clinic this fall/winter I haven't paid a dime!! The referral thing really is a pain in the ass but your PCP really will work with you until you get what you need. Sometimes you just have to be a little patient. I'm on prime btw. It will be really easy when you live on/near base!

I would call tricare. I think all I did was fill out a form and signed it. They maybe able to email/fax you the form and allow you to email/fax back. OR if you're near a base in GA you can call them and find out where the tricare office is and they can help you in like 5 minutes. I think the longest part in switching to prime was waiting for the lady to finish with the person before me lol
