I'm not sure the vision plan is super...I haven't heard much about it. Mike didn't want the army to know he wears glasses so we went to walmart. His exam and glasses were just about 300 dollars!!! The glasses we're the expensive part. The exam was only like 70 dollars.
My best advice would be to call tricare and see what they can tell you! And then let us know what the say ;) lol. I could go for some new frames myself!

i think i may ust have to call tricare..
I went to lenscrafter's with tricare prime. It depends if the doctor wants to accept it or not. I didn't know they took it until I asked and she said YES! So I got my exam for free. There was no discount on glasses/frames or lenses unless you had a coupon or something that offers a discount. I got my pair with the second best lenses for $250.

Kira did you have to get a referral before going to lenscrafters?

right now i have an appt with primary care to get a referral for an eye exam--i think both of those are free. but i dont think Prime covers cost of frames/glasses. tryin not to spend an arm and a leg...(my last pair of glasses were 300 bucks)-- anybody know?

Back when I had prime, I called the AFB I lived close to, and they didn't have any appointments any time soon (cause if I'm not mistaken, you HAVE to try your closest military installation first), so I got on Tricare's website and found a local doc that accepted Tricare. I did get the exam for free, but the glasses (or my contacts) were not covered so I just went somewhere else and got my glasses and ordered my contacts from 1800 Contacts because I have yet to see any kind of insurance plan cover either glasses or contacts. Hope that helps!

I got glasses not too long ago too, the apt was free once every two years I believe, then I was able to get my glasses 2 for $79, lens included at a different place Eyemart. I don't know if you have one of those but they have all kinds ofdeals.

I mentioned this to Kelly earlier but for anyone else that's looking for cheaper frames COSTCO!! I don't recall how much they were after lenses (my glasses are 6 years old lol. I went to the dr last year and he told my my RX was the same so I didn't spend the money on a new pair) but you can get the frames for like 70/80 bucks which is cheaper then some of those little store/shop type places. Anyway I like my costco glasses :)

I get my contacts from Sams Club. So much cheaper!!! But I don't use any kind of insurance or anything.

wooo solved my problem!
went to America's Best -- didnt ask for insurance or anything, i got a full eye exam and new glasses for 125$ not bad!
the only thing that sucks is, when i did lenscrafters my glasses were ready later that same day--with Americas best i have to wait a week, but whatev, id rather do that than goto Lenscrafters and pay another 200 bucks.
woo!
