Is it just for active duty soldiers?

Unfortunately, I think so yeah. It says you have to be AD or AGR
1. Determine your MyCAA eligibility
If you are a military spouse married to an active duty or activated Guard or Reserve Service member, AND you are interested in pursuing portable career education, training, licenses or certifications, you are eligible to receive financial assistance from MyCAA.
Here's the FAQ I've been looking at

Poo, not fair
I was looking into this a month ago. I really thought I was going to get a job soon but seems like it's just not in the cards right now so I am going to take the Army up on it's offer..lol. I signed up just got to pick something I want to do, which is most difficult thing for me.
I'm too lazy to look this up now...this used to just be select bases, anyone know if they've opened it up army wide? I don't want to have to travel to Ft. Bragg to do this...
Erin, you can do it anywhere. They have many many schools and programs to choose from, you can even do classes online.

Yes your soldier has to be AD or Activated guard i believe
It's available for all the bases
There are a ton of schools listed
You have to know your hubby's ss# which i'm sure we all do by now lol and you have to know his DOS(date of seperation)
I filled this out about a week or so ago and I'm waiting on a phone call to confirm that I got the grant. My friend has it right now and she told me aobut it and she said it's great! $6000 can go a long way and it's well worth it ladies. Don't wait too long to try to get the grant though b/c there are a lot of requests in right now and it's taking about 4-6 weeks to get approval. :)

thanks kira! i'm working on mine now :) I just had to submit my application for grad school yesterday and I hate doing that crap online. I liked the good old fashion hand written apps. But my admissions counselor is awesome so that helps.
I found a really great online master of arts in teaching at University of Southern California if anyone is interested in information about it let me know!

Since you are military I dont think you're included...sorrrry. You have the GI bill though, right?

nope... lol even better. my school costs more than the GI bill would cover a year... damn private universities. I get full tuition!!!! plus 600 a semester for books (but i get all 1200 at once cause im a nursing major and we buy some books for the entire year and spend more than 600 our first semester) and I get 400 a month "spending money" this year, and 500 a month senior year... but only during the school months or when were at camp, so next year i get 400 11months out of the year!!!
I got my funding today!! So I start classes sometime in August. I'm so excited!

Kira when did you submit your career plan?? Did you do it via email or over the phone??
I submitted my career plan online then I called One Source. They were busy so they called me back about 5 days later. He asked me a few questions and I got my funding right away. I called the school I am going through Allied Buisness School and I start August 3rd.

awesome!! I just called a few days ago, one of the other wives in the platoon said to call cause she got her funding really quick that way, they told me it would be a few days so I'm still waiting on the call. I just want to make sure I get it before the classes start at the end of Sept lol....if I even get in. Cross your fingers!

almost to good to be true!

I'm sure I messed up. I was calling the school to get help and the lady was a real bitch.

problems with the CAA or other financial aide?
CAA only covers the cost of the classes like for me I am taking 13 credit hours and that comes out to $520. so CAA only covers $520 the other $81 in fees ( reg, ins and such) come out of my Pell as do my books.
I'm doing Ashworth...I think. And everything is included in one price so CAA covers it all. But when I called and told the lady I was filling out the financial aid part she was like, the code is UE and you don't register with us until you are approved. So I was like...okay I don't know what code I need. And she just had this attitude so I didn't feel like I could ask questions.

even I don't understand that one..... did you send the email requsting auth? it was really quick for me, I don't understand why you are having such a hard time!! don't classes start soon? mine start today and I am sitting at the book store waiting for my # to be called so I can buy my books!! 40 more before me! ugh

i have this. its great. i did it all online and then called it was aproved that same day. i start classes in 2 weeks. lol
Wow!! I'm at the part where I request financial aid, and my program starts whenever I want so I'm not too concerned about start dates. I just did it for 2 weeks from when I sent it in.
I'm sure I'll get some cryptic e-mail in a week or so telling me that something is wrong!
Woot! I was approved!!! The school e-mailed me and said they needed my DOB but that's it! I start Jan 25!!!

For those that are reserve or NG if your hubby is deploying soon you might be able to get it then. Cause in the FAQ it states
"Spouses of DoD Active Duty members and activated members of the National Guard and Reserve Components are eligible. The period of eligibility for spouses of Guard and Reserve members is from the date of the Alert or Warning Order for Military Recall or Mobilization, through activation and deployment until 180 days from De-Mobilization."
The only question I would ask them though is what would happen if hubby didn't deploy for some reason. Or what if the deployment ends in the middle of a semester is that semester paid or what? Anyway something to look into. If my hubby ever deploys I will consider this, but I think in my case it won't happen before his enlistment is over. The doctors are just taking too long.
