So the doc mention getting induced today. The only reason she mentioned it is because she knows Charlie is leaving for boot camp so she would be able to have an extra week or so with daddy. I'm already 2 cm dilated... have been since last week. I really wanted to see if I could do a natural birth. I really do not want a c-section. Any one been induced they could tell me about it? Opinions? Another good thing is if we have a scheduled induction we will be able to tell people we are going to the doc and ended up in the hospital. Neither of us really want his mom around when I go into labor cuz we saw how she was with his sister and that shit aint gna fly homie. But I also don't want my family being super over-bearing because I know they do not like Charlie. It would be nice to know when for sure she is going to be here but God did not make it to happen that way. Oh another question will tri-care cover the induction?

Sorry I'm no help because I don't know anyone that has gotten induced but maybe try to make a pro's and con's list???

Hey sweetie...

I had an induction with Kennedy. I went into the dr the day it was schedule and still had her vaginally. I did great up until I hit 7cm and said... GIVE ME DRUGS!!! I did the same with Colton. I hit 7cm and had to get the drugs then also. The induction can be painfull if they use Pitocin. You should ask for Cervadel (sp?) It's a string thing that they put next to your cervix that has a drug on it that helps your cervix open more and then the weight of the baby (and possibly some pitocin) will help start things. I had that for my induction for Kennedy and it wasn't bad. Most everyone I talked to that had to be induced using Pitocin said the contractions come fast and hard and hurt like hell. I was lucky to have a midwife that was a Navy DR and she was great. She did an amazing job and I pushed for 30 min and there was my baby girl!!! You'll do great. If you have any questions... call me. You have my # and if not, PM me and I'll get it to you. Yes, Tricare covers inductions. It's part of your birthing care.

Being induced you can still have the baby vaginally. Like danie said, and tricare should cover it.. but if you are worried. call tricare and ask away!

I've talked to some of my non-military friends about it and they all seem to think charlie and I are being selfish wanting the baby to be early. I feel kind of guilty about it too... I'm going to have A MILLION questions for the doc next week lol

Danie- Were yours medically necessary or why were you induced?

If you are over 37 weeks you guys aren' being selfish imo.

I was induced with alex, if you have questions you can IM me or email or message my phone, I have no shyness if you have questions.

Both my babies were a week over due. Colton came on his own two days before out scheduled induction, and Kennedy was stubborn and had to be forced out. Lol... I agree with Katie... if you are in the safe zone with development, it's your choice and everyone else can stuff it! Your baby will be healthy and they wouldn't consider it if she wasn't.

The doc says they wouldn't schedule it before 39 weeks so it would the 20th at the earliest and only a week before my due date... she also said that I could possibly go before then and since I'm already dilated i probably wouldn't go past my due date. I think I'm most worreid about the pain. My mom was induced with me and refused to have ANY kind of drugs with my 2 younger siblings who were 2 days early and one time. I was 2 weeks late and had to be evicted... and of course that makes me nervous cuz they say to look at your parents. BLAH I would LOVE to meet my daughter early but I would also like it to just happen :( Charlie is reading over my shoulder but he says he is fine with scheduling it the day after the due date which I think would rest easier on my conscious.

I had the picture perfect induction with lil M, so I may not be a lot of help. I was induced on his due date, and it went great. I got the epidural at 4 cm, and labor lasted right at 12 hours. I was 2 cm when I went it.

If you are not effaced, you will (usually) get cervidil the night before. It will soften your cervix...make it ripe. If you are effaced then you will just get the pitocin. Pitocin is artificial oxytocin which is what your body makes that causes contractions.

Now, I went into labor naturally with Ryker, and let me tell you, I will take an induction over that any day. The pitocin made things go along faster, but not more painful. The pain just got worse faster.

There are cons to inductions though. Inductions bring on a higher risk of interefereing with the natural birth process. They have a higher incidence of forcep/vacuum use. More likely to end in an emergency c-section than natural labor. Stuff like that.

I personally wouldnt schedule an induction before my due date, but the day of or the day after I would.

Honestly Spahr, if he's going to miss any period of time, the best period to miss is the first 2-3 months. He might miss the first smile, but really, not a lot happens in that period of time.

Oh and hospital staff will lie for you and tell your MIL that she is not allowed in.

He chose to go sooner (originally they wanted him to leave in Jan)... someone had mentioned to me that its money in the doctors pocket any time they do it. He also chose to leave then knowing he wasn't going to have much time with the baby. I had thought about asking the doctor about getting induced the day after my due date but never did and she mentioned it first, knowing our situation. I think we are going to go ahead and schedule it for the day after and just do a lot of walking until then (lol). I maybe worrying about all this for no reason at all and she'll come early/on time and I'll have the picture perfect labor and delivery.... ONE CAN ONLY HOPE!

Thank you ladies for all your input!

Katie I will be messaging you as soon as I can get my yahoo to work! lol

Oh and his mom is living w/ us so trying to sneak out w/ me in labor is going to be HARD. We don't plan on telling anyone that we are in the hospital until after the baby is born so we can have alone time before our families bombard us. Luckily, I'm not delivering at the closest hospital and I don't think she knows the name of/where it is. I honestly think that he will regret not letting her at the hospital and it will hurt their relationship which I def. don't want to do. Oye this issue deserves it's own thread haha. I just kind of bit my tongue around her now but I hope I don't once the baby is here.

I was induced both times. My first was a day after his due date because I had high blood pressure. Pitocin is horrible, well for me it was anyway. It is like one big constant contraction. I had him vaginally no issues. With my youngest I had my membranes stripped at 39 weeks. We walked a lot and 2 days later my water broke. We went to the hospital about 3 hours and then 8 hours later with no contractions so I had to have pitocin again. I delivered him vaginally with no epidural.

Since your already 2 cm you can ask about having your membranes stripped and the chances of needing pitocin is not likely. I didn't have a good time using pitocin so I never reccomend it...lol. I think for me I will never actually go in labor cause I never experianced any type of contractions not even braxton hicks so pitocin was needed. They were shocked that 8 hours later I had no contractions and since my water broke they had to get me going eventually..lol.

I had my membranes striped with Kennedy. Since she was a week overdue they wanted to see if that would help instead of scheduling the induction. She's a stubborn little girl and had to be evicted.

Spahr

lol I had to be evicted... mom says I would still be in there now if they hadn't... and I can't imagine she would have been to happy having me AND my baby in there ;)

I was induced 2 weeks late and had to be induced with lil M. I swore up and down the entire pregnancy that it would end in an induction.

I had my membranes stripped with Ryker, and labor started the next day. Maybe that's what saved me from having to get an induction!

Some people say its really painful, I didnt think it was so bad.

Danie

The membrane stripping wasn't too bad. The cervadil wasn't bad. I didn't have to have pitocin... but like I said, everyone I ever talked to said, the contractions start hard... there's no working into them... BAM... there they are!

Thanks for all the input guys! I am going in weds. and I def. have tons of questions to ask my doc so I feel I will be asking the right questions. Today I was in the hospital because she isn't moving around... like at all. They say everything is fine and its probably just because she is soo squished but the fluid around her is a bit low. It's a 9.1 and below 9 is not good. So now the docs want to keep a stronger eye out on me and because of that medical intervention maybe necessary/a c-section if I don't go into labor soon enough. They didn't test to see if I was leaking fluid or anything, which I think is dumb since earlier on in this pregnancy the docs thought I was, so idk if I'm leaking or if I just don't have enough. But yeah thats my dilemma of the day!

I thought the painful part of getting your membranes stripped was the cramping afterwards? And how far dilated were you when they stripped your membranes (Danie, Kira, Erin?)

I'm upset then none of this was brought up before, I feel like I'm not educated enough to help in the decision making process. I mean obviously if the doc says we need to get her out now, I won't object but as of right now I still have some say and I would like to know that my decision and input is all educated!

I was only 1 cm. The cramps only lasted a couple hours. I drove myself home and started power walking a couple hours later. It took a couple days for my water to break.

My fluid was low too, but I do not remember leaking so there were no good answers why, so with that and the fact that he had some possible kidney issues my doc stripped my membranes at 39 weeks. It was just really good we did that cause with low fluid my placenta was not working as well as it should either.

Anyways my point is that if the docs feel she is ready and there are some things not going so well this late in the game it is safer she is out than in. I was afraid to have Gabe early and I was 39 weeks. The only thing was the earliest my OB would do it was 39 weeks. So he stripped my membranes hoping it would work sooner since the hospital was booked on inductions a little later than he wanted so he was actually settling on my due date of March 1st, no later he said. Gabe was born on Feb 25 at 6 am.

Good Luck!!

Alex was an emergency Csection, I had told the doc for 2 days thatI was leaking fluid, they tried to tell me that I was just peeing. So I went for an ultrasound, and he only had about a teaspoon of fluid they said. I had a really irresponsible doc on call that night and he sent me home to do my fetal kick counts, when i went in for my apt the next morning alex's heart rate was 30 bpm. they sent me by ambulance to the hospital, once up on labor and delivery his heart rate kept fluctuating from 30 bpm to 140 bpm, so once hewas little more stable they induced me with pitocin, I too thought the contactions were alot more intense, and painful, but really not more than without it, it is just they come fast and hard. I ended up in Csection when his heart rate kept getting too low durring the contractions, they said it is becuase i had so little fluid he was squishing his umbillical cord. After he was born they said he had IUG (interuterine growth retardation) He was only 3.1 when he was born at 37 weeks.

My point in explaining this is..... Do not let them bully you when something doesn't feel right, you and charlie are you own best advicates, and they aren't you and don't feel what you ar feeling... Alex is almost 5 now and completely fine and healthy, but not to say it wasn't a rough start to his little life.

Also, I completely agree with Erin, those nurses will be the bad guy for you if his mom does show up, just tell them when you get there that you only want you and charlie in there or you don't want person a and b in there, they will make something up and be the bad guy so that she doesn't get mad at you or charlie.

Like I said if you have more questions feel free to ask.

I was 38 weeks and...geez maybe 2 or 3 cm?

I had to look it up lol. I was 3-4 cm (in between) and not effaced but soft.

SOOO talked to doc today! We won't have a set date until tomorrow (they have to file paper work with the hospital and really we have no set day that we want it to be). I'm just about 3 cm 75% effaced and -2. So she told me to just walk like a mad woman and she could very easily be here before the scheduled induction. Charlie wants it to be set for monday but honestly I would rather it be the 25-26 just to see if she will come on her own.

YAY!!! You can move pretty fast once you hit 3cm and are 75% effaced! I bet if you walk all week, she'll be here before the weekend. You're water could break and you can go at anytime! I'm sooo excited for you! Did she strip your membrane?

No... Im strep b positive and they won't do that until I have at least one round of antibiotics, which is the best route any ways! I told the dogs they were going to get lots of walking and they got VERY excited! haha actually we walked them today and the cairn terrier ran into our neighbors yard and sat in a puddle for like 10 min haha they both came home and CRASHED!

SEX SEX SEX SEX.... I Swear if you guys start humpin like bunnies you'll be in labor with in hours... between walkin and humpin you'll be holding a baby in no time, especially where you are already dialating and 75% effaced. ;-)

3 cm is a great start!!

What got my water broke was I was danced with Donovan sitting on my tummy, sort of cause I wasn't all that big, we were just having fun. I was pretty lazy for a couple weeks cause my feet were swollen so one day I put on some music and danced with Donovan and it worked..lol.

WE HAVE A DATE!

The original date was Sunday.. I'd go in that evening and do the cervadil and the induction would happen monday... but they had that scheduled at the wrong hospital! SOOOO we got the ok from another doc and I'll go in Saturday (at the right hospital)! I think I would have passed on the induction if it had been at the wrong hospital. I chose the one I'm at for a reason! I'm happy to have a date but super nervous! At least I have time to plan and know when she'll be here! I'll be sure to keep someone up to date... I'll have my computer but idk how much being online I'll actually be feeling up to. So now I'm going to go get myself done w/ (at least!) this week and next weeks homework!
