Hey there everyone! I just joined today!!! :)
My husband and I are going through our first deployment. We are stationed in Texas, but I am in New York State and probably will stay here for most of the year! I am 25 and my husband is 20. We will be celebrating our first anniversary (although we will be apart) on July 7th.

I am certainly hoping time will fly by fast. Job market sucks, so it has been hard finding just a little job to help pass the time!!! Havent made a lot of friends with other military wives..I've met quite a few but stopped talking to many because I just can't take too much drama and gossip!!

I hope to meet ppl I can click with!!! :D

Talk to ya'll soon!!!

I'm sure you will love this site as much as we all do!

Thanks for the welcome!!! AND we are stationed at Hood. We both dislike it very much!!! lol

I have my BA in psychology and am actually going for a nursing degree because getting a job as a nurse should be fairly easy with all the moving around you do in the military!!!

Are you going for RN??? I am thinking of getting just my LPN because it takes less than a year and its not my first love..I probably wont be able to become a counselor, which is my passion, until he is out of the army. But you do what you gotta do :D

KristiMarie
06-25-2009, 06:57 PM
You could easily be a counslor in the army! but it would require more school too lol. But you can always work mental health nursing, which would be just as fun!

But I am going for my BSN (bachelor of science in nursing!!!) All at the expence of the Army too, lol so I cant complain, I go to a private university and its freaking expensive as crap to attend. But currently we have the best nursing program in the state, so I cant complain I guess!

Spahr
06-25-2009, 06:58 PM
what is an LPN? I can probably figure it out but... yeah lol

KristiMarie
06-25-2009, 06:59 PM
licensed practical nurse :)

Spahr
06-25-2009, 07:00 PM
What is the difference? I figure a LPN can't do as much?

abrown0905
06-25-2009, 07:03 PM
YAH...I have thought about doing that in the army, but I am sooo not military material...lol... we just would not mix!

And LPN is the least amount of school for nursing besides the CNA, which i know I DO NOT want to do! And LPNs can make pretty good money even on a part time basis. I've thought about doing psychiatric nursing, but I just don't think I want to go to school for another 4 years to get a Bachelor's degree. With the new GI Bill I will be able to use that money when he is eligible for it to be transferred and I am going to finish my Master's and see about going to school further.... I'll probably be going to college my whole life... lol

And I thought i was done after high school!!! ha :P

KristiMarie
06-25-2009, 07:03 PM
Yeah.. really I think LPN cant pass meds... but i think thats the major difference... but im not sure

KristiMarie
06-25-2009, 07:04 PM
haha ashley thats too funny, but i do NOT blame you for not going CNA at all. You could be a civillian nurse for the army! They have lots of those!

abrown0905
06-25-2009, 07:05 PM
What is the difference? I figure a LPN can't do as much?

Right. They are a little higher up than a CNA (certified nursing assistant) but lower than a RN. LPNs generally are in charge of distributing medications (at least around here in NY) and generally do not have to do the "dirty work" like wiping butts, giving baths, cleaning up beds, etc.... And the schooling is a certificate so its no longer than a year... as opposed to two or 4 yrs for an RN!

I think thats all right... lol...it may vary a little from state to state

Spahr
06-25-2009, 07:08 PM
well what can a CNA do!? lol I'm sorry I'm soo lost!

KristiMarie
06-25-2009, 07:10 PM
haha CNA can wipe butts, pass food, make beds stuff like that and "babysit" patients who need 24/7 watch

here in MO LPN cant pass meds, but they can start IV (which is weird cause some meds are administered via IV)

and RN can do anything, pass meds or anything a LPN or CNA can do

surely would not wanna be a CNA!

Hey Ashley! I'm Colleen and my soldier is currently on his first tour as well! We are getting near the end now though, he should be home early. I know what you mean about the job market, I am an elementary school teacher and I have found it hard to get steady work around home. I am heading back to Alaska in a matter of days to get our apartment set up and wait for hubby's return! You will really enjoy it here, the ladies are great and they have really been a fabulous support system!! Welcome!

Hello!

I'm Heather (21) and am from Duluth, MN but attend college at St.Cloud State University. My marine and I just broke things off a day ago...he is on his first deployment and is done with that at the end of July then off to Afghan.

Welcome to the group!! You will love it.

Hi! I'm Kira. My DH and I are currently at Fort Campbell and we have 2 boys.

I was actually going to go to school for CNA..lol. I know it's dirty work but it's better than going back to a fast food restaurant..maybe..lol. Actually the Army was going to pay for it so I figured why not.

Welcome to MTMH!!

abrown0905
06-25-2009, 10:12 PM
Well... it seems many of us seem to have the same problem with the job market. I have not been able to get a job in my field (psychology)...it just seems sometimes that all that money spent on college and all you can find are the jobs you would be doing if you had NO college degree...craziness!!!

The best thing about the military is knowing you'll be getting a paycheck every two weeks...(as long as there aren't any pay problems..lol)... and you know you're spouse isn't gonna get fired...lol

HIII!!! and CNA is a great job...my aunt, my sister, and one of my friends are all CNAs...it's just one of those jobs that isn't for everyone. I know I could not do it, but its pretty good money and im sure much better than a fast food restaurant!!!
I'm excited to get the military to pay for my school too...thanks to the 6000 dollar grant thingy..!!! Have you all heard about that???

Kira
06-25-2009, 10:21 PM
HaHa I swear I hate changing my kids diapers, but I never tried it so I really wouldn't know if I would hate the job.

Yeah I heard of the grant, that's why I was going to go to school. Since the CNA is only 900$ out here I was going to see if I could do more classes online.

Hey Ashley! I'm Meredith, 23 I'll have been married one year to my soldier on July 7th also!! We're stationed at Ft Lewis but I'll be on my way back to north Jersey sometime in Sept. after Mike heads back out to Iraq. I have a BS in athletic training and worked the past year at a high school but I'm having trouble finding anyone around Jersey that will hire me half way through the fall sports season. I'm going to go back for my MA and credentials for teaching secondary bio...hopefully lol. I totally agree that having a college education and little experience is killing any type of job opportunity for me. It almost would have been better off if I hadn't spent all the money on college!

Anyway, welcome to the forum! I'm sure you'll love it here if you don't already! It's very easy to get sucked right in!
