do any of you know how long it takes before you start receiving separation pay? John is a reserve and might get put on active duty for over a month and some of his higher ups say if he is gone a month we get separation pay and others say he has to be gone for three... anyone know?
after 30 days you get separation pay

what if he is just gone 30 days?
then nothing...It starts at 31 days. If they're just gone for like 33 days though, I don't know what you'd get. I just know that it's after 30 days.
this is long and needlessly wordy, but it might help you nonetheless. I didn't see anything exact though.

I think it goes by the month though. If he is gone between 31-60 days you will get $250. 61-90 will be another $250. So he wouldn't actually have to be gone a full 60 days before you get anything, kwim?

It really depends when my husband was at WTC which is like 32days or something he got separation pay. He's National Guard but that shouldn't make a difference. I think how it usually works is that if they don't know for sure that he will be separated from you for more then 31 days they won't start paying the separation pay till day 31 but you get back pay for the first month too. If its a class where they know the length they will pay the separation pay from the beginning. At least this would make sense but what am I thinking nothing the army does makes sense. :)

with us in the marine core. when he got deployed we got it right away. like the first paycheack he was gone. but it might have been cause they knew he was going to be gone.
