When did you start to potty train them? Bryson is 20 months and I want to start but I don't want to because he will be going through so many changes I don't want him to regress!

I'm sure you've heard this most annoying phrase before, but every baby is different! M is what...34 months now and not PTed. We're working on it, and I know he is more than capable, but he doesn't want to.

So watch for signals, and start preparing now. Talk about the potty, buy one and let him play with it, let him watch you and others, watch videos, read books...etc!

We had a lot of changes when I wanted to start PT Colton... but he wasn't ready for it, and I didn't want him to digress also. We moved cross-country and the drive would have been horrible! After he turned 3, we started to work on it slowly. He would scream if I mentioned putting him on the potty before then! He got over it, when I left him alone about it. I would say at 38 months he finally wanted to sit on the potty, and it just kinda fell into place. He liked the spiderman seat potty, and his stool. He feels like a big boy with the one that sits on the toilet seat. I also talked to my friends, and read some, but the biggest thing, is to not push it with boys. They will come around when they are 'ready'. Colton still wears a cloth diaper at night, and there are nights he wakes up dry, others, soaked. However, through the day he is on top of it, even through naptimes. I think that Erin hit it on the head though... each child is different. I hope that helped!

Yea that helped a lot! Thanks! I don't think that he is ready he cries when I ask so I think I will wait. It seems like its a normal thing for boys to take longer then girls!!

i agree you should at least get a little potty and start with that. cause i have one with rylie and he knows what the potty is and if i ask him if he has to go he runs to it. but he just doesnt go. he'll sit there but wont go. i figure its a start.

Damien was around 18/20 months going dry all day and right around 24/25 going dry all night. Not normal in my experience.
Devon is 3 yrs and is dry all day and through naptime with almost no accidents. He is just now learning to poop on the potty though.
With both the boys I taught themt o sit down to pee at first and then taught them how to pee standing up outside. Love living in the woods where it is acceptable to pee outside still. :D
Every kid is different but buy the potty and just wait till he starts to show interest. The harder you push them the longer it takes so just be patient. Oh and pullups or training pants too. If you can get him excited about underwear that will help. And we use "poop candy" to motivate Dev to use the toilet. Just a small pack of sweet tarts up on the shelf where he can see them. It gives him something positive to focus on. HTH

aaron was like 4 when he finally got it 100%
i was really passive about it, because i didnt want him to hate it and not go.
but i agree, start with a little potty in the bathroom, and always give him the option to use it. we also did at bath time had aaron pee in a cup, like a teeny dixie cup. then i showed him i was dumping it in the potty and flushing it. it worked! #2 was a bit more difficult.

We wanted to get one of those so bad! Both of my kids were really short when they started using the potty.
