Eight male soldiers with the Manassas-based 266th Military Police Company are being investigated for allegedly taking still photographs and videotaping as many as 21 female soldiers showering during the unit's pre-deployment mobilization training at Fort Dix, N.J., Army spokesman Lt. Col. Christopher Garver said Friday.

The Army's Criminal Investigation Command and Multi-National Force-Iraq are investigating the alleged misconduct.

The photos were allegedly taken last fall, before the 266th Military Police Company of the Virginia Army National Guard shipped out to Iraq in December.

"Just last month was sexual assault awareness month," Garver said. "We do take these matters seriously."

The father of one of the female soldiers who was allegedly photographed and/or videotaped sent a letter to Army leaders advising them of what happened, Garver continued.

The 266th MP Company deployed to Iraq from Fort Dix in early December with approximately 150 soldiers. While in Iraq, the unit has been assisting and training Iraqi police officers, according to the Associated Press.

Garver said commanders in Iraq learned of the allegations on May 21 and initiated an Army Regulation 15-6 investigation on May 22. The Criminal Investigation Command initiated a criminal investigation on May 23.

"The unit commander [Capt. Ryan Mallory] was made aware of the allegations and launched an investigation within hours," he said. "Army leaders got involved quickly, as soon as we found out."

None of the eight male soldiers under investigation or any other soldier with the 266th has been sent home or relieved of his duties as a result of the probe, Garver said.

According to Garver, the soldiers under investigation could be charged with committing indecent acts; conspiracy; obstruction of justice; and making false statements under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

So far no charges have been filed, Garver said.

"The investigation will be done thoroughly," he pledged.

The 266th is serving in Basra, the Associated Press reported

i really have no clue how the dad knew!! i mean, i dont know if maybe the girl was aware of it and told her dad about it. it kinda pisses me off though because as bad as it is it isnt THAT severe for the way they're treating them now- they've taken all forms of entertainment away from them while they're in Iraq. The thing that pisses me off is these 21 girls that were "videotaped" will be set for the rest of their lives because the army will take care of them since such a "selfless" act took place. dumbbbbbbb
