I have been reading these posts for about a week and it seems like a great place but I am a bit intimidated since you all seem so close! My boyfriend of almost 3 years decided to join the USMC. He is currently in bootcamp but I am having a hard time coping with everything and have become really terrified after reading all your posts! I know I have gone through nothing compared to the rest of you, and he is not my fiance or husband but I love him none the less.

It sounds horrible, but I find it difficult to relate to some of my other friends since they do not have their boyfriends in the military. Thank you for letting me join this site. My name is Erika Lilly. (Lilly is my middle name but it always stuck as my name, please feel free to call me Erika) I am 19 and live in Camp Hill, PA. aww girl you will become close with all the girls on here! trust me. i joined and within a week i was talking to all of them and we have become so close :)
its completely understandable that you're having a hard time getting used to everything, but this site really helps and keeps you cheered up!! my fiance deployed back in dec. and i still have days that i get really lonely and upset but all these girls are so helpful and friendly!!

Thank you so much for your kind word! Like I said it is just hard to get used to. I also feel a bit lost since this came so fast and I barely know anything about what is going on. well him and i got engaged back in november before he left. i am only 20, so i am still in college, we're going to make it a long engagement because we dont want to rush things- so probably after i graduate :)
he has r&r in june and should be home in october [i cant wait!!!]
as impossible as this may seem, your SO leaving can make your relationship even stronger :) you will start to respect each other even more and realize how much you truly love each other!

Aw girl no fears! I was super intimidated when I first joined... its werid getting so close to people you have never met in your life! We are close on this site, thats why I like it, we all care so much about one another... and its awesome that the one thing that brought us together is the military! Civis just don't understand it! I wasn't Ive been on the site for a year now and was just a girlfriend at the time... then was single for a while when we hit a road bump and still stayed on here, now I am engaged, but it doesn't matter. I think we've all been in the position where it's intimitaded but don't worry!! the feeling goes away VERY fast. As for civi's... they simply don't understand haha I have a select few that do but nothing compares to the same as my military girls :)

Wow... You girls are great! Thank you again for all the nice words! Hopefully I will begin to understand more why he is there and it will work out better! It will be nice to know we have a steady salary though, especially with this economy. I miss him already but I know things can only get better.. I guess.

It is also really hard to keep with school at this time.

How was everyones Valentines Day? I went to the movies with my girl friends which was nice. Always good to get my mind off of it. :)

It seems like everyone gets married so quick in the military but Ryan has not mentioned us getting married yet (of course he loves me but I dont think he is ready to get married) I wonder if it is just cause it is so new to him still.

Military life is so hard to get used to and I am just getting in to it!!!! :(

Ohhh honey. I have gone back and fourth sooo much with the idea of school. I want to be with him, but I also know that if I leave here IM screwed. I am on a full ride scholarship, and while ROTC would be easy to transfer to another school it sucks. Cause my ROTC program that were are partnership school to is the best this side of the mississippi river! And, my nursing program is the best in the state, and I am running at a college I love (and actually competitive at it)... so its hard. THe best thing is not always the easiest... I look at it this way... when hes deployed... at least school will keep me busy!
