So I just need to rant for a minute. I started checking flights LAST NIGHT to go home for the month of June since Mike will be at JRTC. The best I could find was round trip tickets 119 each...so 240 not horrible! I'd have to pay a car service to pick me up since Mike would still be away when I got back to WA and it would only be 3 weeks but the cheaper tickets seemed worth it. My parents said they would help us out...even better. So I go online today and the first flight went down to 109 and the second went up 279 what!??!?!?! How does one day increase a flight by 150?!?! I can't ask my parents to pay that and I surely can't! HOLY CRAP! I just think its ridiculous how fast fares go up and down....it's so frustrating!
PS I hadn't booked the flights cause I hadn't talked to my parents yet...soo now I'm not sure I'm going to go home...

Just keep looking around. There are tons of sites you can use. Maybe purchase one way from on site and the return from another to get lower fares?
The same thing happened to me when I was going to DH's BCT graduation. I hesitated. Luckily I looked around and got a pretty good deal. The only bad thing was it was a good drive so I rented a car. I still ended up saving $150 though.
Good Luck!!

Yeah Danie suggested the train but Seattle to NYC on a train...no thanks lol. Plus we'll be flying home in Aug for his pre deployment leave so maybe I'll stay here. I just wish I had some more friends to actually hang out with..

this sounds weird but it usually works- try to get on one of the booking sites (expedia, orbitz...) in the middle of the night on a week day.
it sounds strange but not many people get on that time of day so the prices drop, dont ask how! haha
hope this helps :) good luck!

So fly to Cleveland and we can drive the rest of the way to NJ!

lol Thanks Lindsay! My brother's gf suggested orbitz and right now its the best rate I can find and I'm willing to take. I was just so frustrated how quickly that first deal slipped away from me!

You can also call the airlines, and tell them that you found a flight through expedia for blah blah, and they might match it. I like Southwest. They are usually pretty good for prices. As for the train idea... I was kidding silly Mere Mere! But it would give you a change to relax and read, and catch up on MTMH with no distractions. Ya never know. It could be fun!

Come on Mere!!!!! You know you wanna!
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. I bought my tickets on priceline. I tried that name you own price thing. They rejected but gave me another offer. It was still reasonable so I took it before I regreted letting that get away from me. The bad thing is it only gives you a time frame no actaual flight info. I was so nervous but it turned out to be a great deal since it was a non-stop flight, and they were more expensive.
Good Luck!

oh mere im sorry your having a hard time with this! it sucks. i dont really know cause i have never been on a plane. but i really hop eoyu get it figured out and can go home.
yeah I was going to say Priceline too.. I've never used it but I heard sometimes you can get a ridiculously good deal on there! Otherwise I tend to use Hotwire most of the time. DON'T USE EXPEDIA!! If theres like any kind of change they charge you all sorts of ridiculous fees! To the point where D's dad ended up just buying him another ticket on Southwest (who, yes, tends to have the cheapest flights and they're great with military discounts) but I just lost the money I spent on the plane ticket

I've used Travelocity for just about everything. I booked all three cruises through them and they were awesome. Never had an issue!

yeah I found a decent deal on orbitz. I've flown southwest several times but the closest airport they fly into is Albany, NY which really isn't all that close lol. I don't know I'll either figure it out or stay here lol

The best I could do was 326 round trip, non stop flights from here to Newark, NJ (shorter drive from the airport :) then jetblue would have been :) ) AND to top it off my parents agreed to foot the bill for the whole thing!! Job searching here I come :D
